La tarea-Homework
Homework is an essential component of learning a
language. Without continuous practice it
will be difficult to progress and succeed in class. Some homework assignments may be optional but
it is your responsibility to study for assessments and keep up with the pace of
the class.
I will also often assign a required homework such as a
reading, research, or writing assignment that will be necessary in order to
complete an in-class activity or to move forward on a project the following
day.
If you miss class please visit my blog to find out what topics we discussed. There you will find a link to access any
homework that may have been assigned.
You may also visit my Google site at https://sites.google.com/site/animasspanish/ if you are looking for a particular
assignment.
Escala de notas-Grading Scale
·
Standards Assessments 40%
·
Linguistic Skills 35%
·
Projects 15%
·
Process 10%
Las evaluaciones-Assessments
I will be using a standards based grading method. This means you will be able to track your
learning and focus on a particular standard to determine in what areas you need
to improve and in what areas you are confident.
Every week we will have a short assessment that covers the standards we
have studied during that week. As the
weeks progress, I will integrate standards from previous assessments to insure
that older information is not forgotten.
Reassessments
I want to insure that students are mastering the
information we cover in class, therefore, you will be allowed to retake an
assessment up to three times. If the
grade you receive on a subsequent assessment is higher than a previous grade,
this new grade will replace the lower grade.
Inversely, if you score worse on an assessment, this new grade will
replace the latest grade for that standard.
You may not
reassess right after seeing your score.
If you are having trouble with a standard, please meet with me or come
to the Spanish Help SIG to discuss any confusion. You may only reassess on two assessments at once. You
may only reassess on Wednesday during my office hours or during Spanish help
SIG. If you would like to reassess you
must send an email to me on the Monday before you wish to reassess that
explains the following:
1. Which standard and name of the assessment you would
like to reassess.
2. A reason justifying WHY you think you will do better
on the reassessment.
3. When you plan to take the reassessment: during Spanish
Help SIG on Thursday or during office hours on Wednesday.
Tarea de recuperación-Makeup Work
Extensions will be granted on assignments or projects
on a case-by-case basis. If you need an
extension talk to me or email me,
preferably as much in advance as possible.
Homework and smaller assignments - will be marked down by 50% and will no longer be
accepted more than two school days after the assignment was due.
Projects – Will be
marked down 10% each day it is late.
Las reglas de la clase-Classroom rules
·
Spanish can be hard! Making
mistakes when learning a language is the only way to learn. Trust me; I’ve made my fair share of funny
mistakes! Be patient and supportive of
others and have fun making mistakes!!
·
Cheating and Plagiarism are serious offenses. There will be no warning for such
infractions. If I suspect you are
involved in such behavior I will immediately send you to Jake to discuss
disciplinary action.
·
The use of translating programs like Google Translator or Spanishdict.com
will be considered cheating. DO NOT USE PROGRAMS LIKE GOOGLE TRANSLATOR.
THIS IS CONSIDERED CHEATING AND WILL RESULT
IN IMMEDIATE DISCIPLINARY ACTION.
·
Please ask permission before you bring food or drink into the
classroom. All drinks must have lids and
your work station must be spotless when you leave. If you are unable to follow this rule students
will no longer be able to bring food or drink into the classroom.
Las reglas universales (UNIVERSAL SCHOOL RULES)
·
No swearing.
·
No listening to music anywhere in the building without instructor
permission. Wearing headphones around your neck is considered the same as
listening to music.
·
Follow the fashion guide while at school.
·
No chewing gum.
·
No inappropriate use of technology.
·
Refrain from behavior that could break one of the low hanging sprinkler
heads in a classroom (throwing objects, swinging swords around, etc.)
Herramientas para la clase y para la vida (tools for class and life) – the habits of the heart and mind
1. Perspective – Have a point of view; respect
and understand the points of view of others.
Take a stand, but be willing to listen to other ideas
than your own.
2. Advocacy – When you need help, or when you
don’t understand, ask questions. When
you can’t connect to a project, schedule a meeting
with a teacher. Advocate for yourself,
for your classmates, for your community, for your
planet.
3. Perseverance – Don’t give up. Learn to work
through difficulty.
4. Evidence – Use it to back up your
perspective. Require it from others who make claims.
Make decisions based on it.
5. Refinement –
Take pride in everything you do and strive for beautiful work.
